Cherie Goldman of SCCPSS leads this line, and its logic is simple even where the execution is not: every PK-5 teacher — and the secondary teachers who need it — trained in the science of reading, coached well enough that the training holds, and handed materials that actually match the evidence.

Two commitments are already banked. The district has adopted a five-year strategic plan with the Moonshot goal built in, a promise on paper designed to outlast any single superintendent. And more than $3 million has already gone into the high-dosage Ignite Tutoring for K-3 students — the very intervention whose pilot earned it a permanent, district-wide home.
